6. Mum & Dad tell their story of usng the Barratt Birth Centre, Northampton General Hospital

Grace (Mum’s perspective)

I had always wanted a water birth, but this was not an option with our first son. When myself and my husband arrived at The Barratt Birth Centre with me in labour we were so excited and nervous. The fabulous staff immediately put us at ease. The room I gave birth in was amazing, spacious, clean, with music and lights and a wonderful birthing pool. The staff and birth centre gave me such a positive birth experience. I feel so privileged to have been able to use this space. I want women to know that birth can be scary, but it can also be a fantastic, empowering experience.

Thank you Barratt Birth Centre and your amazing staff!!

Simon (Dad’s perspective)

The birth of our first child was relatively straightforward, but was nowhere near as relaxed and calm as the birth of our second. When my wife went in to labour I was able to speak to a midwife easily and get us booked in. We were able to get into the unit without issue and shown to the room. I was amazed at how spacious, light, clean and airy it was and at how big the birthing pool was. The two midwives we were assigned were excellent – they were friendly, calm and knowledgeable. My wife’s birth was thankfully really straightforward and fast; and the midwives were supportive and lovely throughout. Once all the medical aspects were taken care of, we were left alone with our son to bond and spend our first few moments as a family. When we had any questions, the midwives were on hand to answer them. All in all, the experience of using the Barrett Birthing Centre was extremely positive and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the unit to anyone.
