Patient Engagement Midwife is a newer role for both trusts, their responsbilities and role includes:
Supporting families who have had an adverse outcome that have been escalated to a serious incident or an internal moderate harm investigation. This will include meeting to support the family, to assist them to provide a witness impact statement and signposting them to additional required services.
The role includes evaluating patient experience through feedback tools. They work alongside the patient experience team and ward managers to aid collection of Friends and Family Test (FFT).
They may also initiate and maintain contact with our in/ex utero transferred families (I/EUT). Investigate incident reports associated with IUT's. So far, they have been able to support and signpost many families to date, which has been really rewarding for the midwives and hopefully helpful to the families.
The midwives also contact many service users to discuss their experience. They work closely with PALS and complaints to support patients. Their work is fed back at Family Divisional Governance meetings. The Patient Engagement Midwives also work collaboratively with MNVP, Strong Start, Milk&You, Hope4You, PMA’S, Maternity Risk Midwife and Patient Experience Leads within Nursing and Quality Directorate to support trust wide feedback and reporting systems.
They deliver training on staff training week. The hope is that the roles can continue to develop and promote a positive open culture in relation to patient experience and complaints management.
