Dads & Partners

Dads and partners play a vital role in supporting mum-to-be during pregnancy and after. Preparing for birth is an exciting experience for both parents. Finding out you are about to become a dad or parent can give rise to a lot of thoughts, emotions and questions.

So what support is there for dads and partners? Locally the Children’s 0-19 Services at Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust (NHFT) provide care through the health visitors. Their services support the child and family - this includes dads and partners. They can help with parenting skills, sleeping, feeding, play and nutrition. The health visitor normally becomes involved in a pregnant woman’s care around the 28th week of pregnancy.

The health visitor will arrange a visit to meet with the mum-to-be in her home. There are a couple of reasons for this - one is to get to know the mother and secondly to identify any additional support that may be required. For further details about the Children’s 0-19 Services please click here.
